Product Details:

Bussmann 3.6WDFHO80 medium voltage fuse offers superior protection against overcurrent and short-circuit faults in medium voltage (0.6k to 34.38kV) electrical systems. This type of fuse is used in the power distribution, utilities, manufacturing, mining and oil & gas industries.

Working Mechanism:

  • During normal operation, the fuse remains intact as current flows through the electrical circuit without any issues.
  • When an overcurrent event occurs in the circuit, the current passing through the fuse increases significantly.
  • The increased current causes the fuse element inside the fuse to heat up rapidly due to its electrical resistance.
  • As the fuse element heats up, it reaches a critical temperature and melts.
  • This melting of the fuse element creates an open circuit, disconnecting the faulty portion of the circuit from the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How is a fuse rated?

A. Fuses are rated based on their current-carrying capacity and voltage rating. The current rating is the maximum current the fuse can handle without melting, while the voltage rating indicates the highest voltage the fuse can safely interrupt.

Q. What are the different types of fuses?

A. There are various types of fuses, including cartridge fuses, blade fuses and resettable fuses (PTCs). Cartridge fuses are further classified as fast-acting, time-delay and ultra-rapid fuses, each of which is designed for a specific application requiring a different response time.

Q. How do I select the right fuse for my application?

A. Selecting the appropriate fuse involves the circuit's voltage, current requirements and the type of equipment being protected. The fuse's rated current should be slightly higher than the circuit's normal operating current, while the voltage rating should match the circuit voltage.
