Allpax AX1852 dovetail punch is used to cut out gasket arcs and form gaskets for large sealing applications in transmission and distribution equipment. This AX1852 dovetail punch is ideal for making interlocking dovetail joints when cutting out a gasket having a large outside diameter using gasket cutters is not possible due to space constraints, absence of large diameter cutters or due to gasket materials having a smaller width than the gasket diameters.

Working Mechanism:

Steps for operating Allpax AX1852 dovetail punch are:

• Lay out outer diameter (OD), inner diameter (ID) & bolt holes of the desired gasket on a piece of paper or cardboard and then position the template over a flat wooden surface or cutting board.
• Cut out multiple arcs of gasket material with the desired OD and ID using an extension style gasket cutter. The combined arcs need to be greater than 360 degrees of gasket plus additional material for overlap.
• Then, stack the arcs on the template (mentioned in the 1st step) while overlapping each end at least as much as the dovetail punch dimensions. Position the overlaps away from bolt-hole locations for secure overlaps. Then tap down the gasket material to the template on either side of the overlaps.
• Position Allpax AX1852 dovetail punch over each overlap and struck with a hammer having solid, flat blows a few times to complete the cut. The top and bottom materials of the overlapping gasket material will now have mating dovetails. The dovetail joints can be taped together for easy handling of the finished gasket.
• If the gasket arcs are wider than a single dovetail, users can punch out two or more side by side dovetails per joint using Allpax AX1852 dovetail punch.
