174 Series Universal Clamps, Stainless Steel

Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps are ideal for unpressurised retaining functions for filters, dust bags & induction hoses. These clamps are recommended for applications that involve hose tightening around a fitting, within a car engine or an industrial machinery unit. Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps feature a uniquely designed band edge for reducing the risk of damage to the hose. These universal clamps are made of stainless steel for structural rigidity & resisting corrosion on exposed surfaces, and feature small perforations to engage and keep the clamp locking mechanism in position once tightened.

Uses

Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps are used for numerous clamping applications in the chemical, petrochemical, automobiles, mining, agricultural, food & beverage, plumbing and heating & ventilation industries.

Working Mechanism

Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps feature small perforations that engage and keep the clamp locking mechanism in position once fastened. Once installed, the locking mechanism keeps the clamp engaged & locked for long periods, even in adverse conditions & environments.

Features

  • Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps are suitable for after sale, maintenance and prototype production.
  • These clamps are also great for applications that involve hose tightening around a fitting within a car engine or an industrial machinery unit.
  • These universal clamps are made of stainless steel for structural rigidity and resisting corrosion on exposed surfaces.
  • Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps feature a uniquely designed band edge for reducing the risk of damage to the hose.
  • These Oetiker clamps feature small perforations to engage and keep the clamp locking mechanism in position once tightened.

Compatible Accessories

  • Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps are compatible with Oetiker 17400067 bands and 17400003 screw locks for clamping flat, round or irregularly shaped pieces.

Installation

  • Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps include a screw lock, ratchet lock and a perforated steel band for quick and secure installation.
  • Determine the clamp length by wrapping around the object to be clamped and add approx 50 mm.
  • Cut off the band to the required length.
  • To prevent possible injuries, simply remove sharp edges with a file and cut corners at an angle.
  • Insert about 30 mm of band material through the top of the retaining slot while folding backwards below the remaining strip.
  • For screw lock, place the clamp over the object. Insert the free end of the band under the screw and over the hooks, extending out of the screw lock body. Fasten the hooks in the perforations at the tightest possible point and simply tighten the clamp with a hexagonal wrench or screwdriver.
  • For ratchet lock, place the lever in Open position and pre-form the band end to match the lock's curvature. Pass the free end through the slot and under the tongue, such that the end extends outside the lock body.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different types of Oetiker clamps?

Oetiker offers a wide range of clamps including crimping ring, worm drive, low profile, strap, V profile and ear clamps for applications in the automotive, oil & gas and hydraulic industries.

What is a quick release hose clamp?

Quick release hose clamps are similar to common worm drive hose clamps, however, the worm screw is designed to pivot away from the clamp band to fully disengage from the perforations. During installation, the worm screw is disengaged to allow the band to be cinched down by hand. Once the desired amount of slack has been removed, the screw snaps down, allowing the worm gear to mesh with the perforations in the band. The band can then be tightened using common hand tools.

Do hose clamps go bad?

Radiator hose clamps can fail over time and cause damage to radiator hoses. These hose clamps should be analysed and replaced during the inspection process. Faulty clamps can cause engine failure due to overheating.

How do you tighten a screw clamp?

Squeeze the clamp with a single hand such that the end opposite to the driver slides into the sleeve that holds the driver. Now turn the driver clockwise with a wrench or screwdriver so that threads on the driver are engaged in the slots on the clamp. Keep turning the driver till the clamp tightens around the hose completely & securely.

In what sizes are Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps available on Raptor Supplies?

Raptor Supplies offers Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps in sizes ranging from 10 to 52 m.

What is the significance of perforations in the band of Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps?

Oetiker 174 Series universal clamps have small perforations that keep the clamp locking mechanism in position once fastened.

When should I replace my hose clamps?

Radiator hose clamps and radiator hoses should be replaced every 3 to 5 years. With age and heavy use, hoses and clamps can become brittle, swollen or corroded. The radiator can only cool the car if the internal pressure stays high.

How are Oetiker clamps measured?

Just measure the outside diameter of the hose and make sure that the measured diameter is in the middle of the clamping range of the clamp.

Are Oetiker clamps reusable?

Selected Oetiker clamp models like low profile, universal and screw clamps are reusable.

How to choose the right sized hose clamp?

To choose the right sized hose clamp, measure the outside diameter of the hose and fitting, with the hose installed on the desired pipe or tube. Calipers or tape rules are both accurate methods of ensuring proper measurement. Once you've gotten an accurate measurement, choose a hose clamp where the hose diameter falls in the middle of the clamp's working range.

How to properly position a hose clamp?

Hose clamps come in a variety of shapes, styles and sizes. However, most of them follow the same guidelines for proper placement on a hose and tube / pipe. Once the hose is pressed securely onto the mating part, position the hose clamp toward the end of the hose with approximately 1/4 inch space between the clamp and the end of the hose.

What are the features of a screw hose clamp?

Screw style hose clamps feature a long stainless steel band that wraps around itself and a screw that the installer can use to tighten the band. As the installer tightens the screw, it pulls the two ends of the band in separate directions, applying a lot of pressure. Also, their design allows screw type hose clamps to be adjusted for several sizes of hoses.

How do you remove an Oetiker clamp?

Tools like a side, rotating or bowl nose cutter can be used for removing an Oetiker clamp. However, rotating cutters are not recommended as they can damage the hose while cutting the clamp.
