Working Mechanism

  • These circuit breakers use a combination of thermal and magnetic technology to detect and interrupt overcurrents.
  • The thermal element (bi-metallic strip) responds to prolonged overcurrents by monitoring the heat generated by the current flowing through the circuit breaker. As the overcurrent rises, the strip melts and breaks the current flow.
  • The magnetic element (electromagnet) responds to sudden, large overcurrents by monitoring the magnetic field generated by the current. As the temperature exceeds a certain threshold, the magnetic element trips instantly, causing the breaker to interrupt the flow.

Features

  • They feature a thermal-magnetic trip unit which protects from both overload and short circuit conditions.
  • These circuit breakers can be installed on devices using a bolt-on method, offering easy access to the device for maintenance and repair and providing a secure, stable connection.
  • They are available in single / double / three pole configurations to meet the needs of various applications.

Standards and Approvals

  • UL
  • CSA

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between interchangeable and non-interchangeable trips?

  • Non-interchangeable circuit breakers have unique characteristics and ratings that are matched to meet the specific requirements of the equipment. Hence, they are not suitable for replacing or substituting with a different type of circuit breaker without compromising the safety or performance of the electrical system.
  • Interchangeable circuit breakers can be easily swapped with other circuit breakers of the same type and rating. They are suitable for applications where flexibility and ease of maintenance are important.

How can I reset the circuit breaker once tripped?

Eaton circuit breakers can be manually reset by pushing the breaker handle all the way to the OFF position and then back to the ON position.
