Working Mechanism

  • When an electrical fault, such as overloading or short-circuiting, occurs in the system, the current in the circuit increases beyond its normal level.
  • The trip unit within the breaker detects the increase in current and activates the breaker's trip mechanism.
  • The trip mechanism opens the breaker's contacts, thus interrupting the flow of the current and protecting the device from any potential damage.
  • This mechanism also sends a signal to indicate that the breaker has tripped and the fault condition has been cleared.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an interchangeable trip unit?

An interchangeable trip unit can be easily removed and replaced within a moulded case circuit breaker without replacing the entire breaker.

What is the LSIA trip configuration in these electronic circuit breakers?

The LSIA trip configuration provides a required long delay protection and a user-selectable short delay and / or instantaneous protection in an electrical system. It also senses ground faults and provides a remote alarm to signal the fault condition. However, it does not trip the circuit breaker due to the detection of ground faults.

How to install an R-frame circuit breaker?

  • Inspect the circuit breaker for completeness and check for damage before mounting.
  • Install the trip unit and rating plug, accessories and terminals.
  • Re-install cover and secure with pan-head screws provided. Torque the screws tightly.
  • Mount the circuit breaker to the desired location.
  • Connect the line and load conductors, as well as torque terminals for a secure connection.
