Working Mechanism

  • Insert the plug into the pipe or application area by threading it into a standard test tee at a distance at least equal to the pipe diameter to prevent protruding of the plug.
  • Connect one end of the inflation hose to the plug inflation fitting (such as Schrader valve) and the other end to the line pressure, pump or another supply pressure device.
  • If another fitting is available, connect a pressure read-back hose to the fitting. The other end of the second hose should be connected to a calibrated gauge.
  • Block / brace the plug properly before inflating the plug. Inflate the plug to its rated inflation pressure through the inflation hose.
  • Stabilise the plug for a short moment before testing the pipe or application. After finishing the test or application, release all the back pressure & plug pressure until the plug is completely deflated.
  • Remove the blocking / bracing system before removing the plug from the pipe. Store the plug securely according to the storage instructions.

Features

  • Cherne Clean-Seal plugs can handle a maximum head pressure of 30 feet (9.1 metre) & maximum back pressure of 13 psi (0.9 bar).
  • Their natural rubber body with high-impact ABS threads provide a leak-tight seal & enhanced durability.
  • They can operate at temperatures ranging from 0 to 125 degrees F.
  • These plugs are inflated using air / gas pressurised at 30 psi (2.1 bar) or 35 psi (2.4 bar).
  • They are NPT-sized with nominal sizes ranging from 1.5 to 4 inches.

Compatible Accessories

  • Cherne Inflation - Read Back Hoses: These pressure read-back hoses work with these plugs for supplying a pressurised gas supply. They are equipped with gauges for precise inflation or deflation.

Standards and Approvals

  • ISO 9001
  • OSHA

Frequently Asked Questions

How to determine the size of the plug required?

Users should determine the pipe's internal diameter (ID) and then choose a plug according to the ID for the application.

What are the points to remember before installing these plugs?

  • Select a plug having the proper size according to the pipe size & design.
  • Always measure the maximum back pressure that the plug must withstand. Choose the plug accordingly.
  • Verify that the inside diameter of the pipe is within the plug's minimum and maximum sealing size range.
  • Calibrated gauges & appropriate hoses should be used to inflate or deflate the plugs.
  • Clean the pipe of any debris or foreign substance to reduce damage to the plug. Clean the plug with a mild soap & water without using any cleaning agent.
  • Check the plug for any crack, corrosion, cut, leaks or loose fittings by inflating the plug with 1 PSIG pressure after every use.
  • A backup system may be chosen to prevent injury in case of a plug failure.
  • A properly designed blocking or bracing device must be used to restrain any plug movement due to forces behind the plug.

How to store these Cherne Clean-Seal plugs?

These plugs must be stored in a dry place below 110 degrees F and away from sunlight & ozone or ultra-violet light sources.
