Pressure / vacuum transducers are ideal for measuring vacuum, air or fluid pressure in fluid management, aerospace and automotive applications. They are available in various configurations and designs like digital pressure gauges, differential pressure transmitters, electronic pressure transducers and pressure transducer switches. Ashcroft supplies a large assortment of pressure measurement instrument configurations to handle most installation & application requirements. Ashcroft pressure transmitters and transducers are ideal for pressure sensing in applications having harsh installation demands like high or low temperatures and superior shock & vibration resistance. Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers are the type of pressure transducers used in sanitary applications. They combine Ashcroft's thin-film technology with diaphragm seal expertise for calculating pressure ranging from 0 to 300 psi. These sanitary pressure transducers feature 316 stainless steel welded construction, providing corrosion resistance and durability in extreme temperatures. They feature electropolished 316 SS diaphragm with 1.5 / 2 inch Tri-Clamp process connection for +/-1% pressure sensing accuracy. They are offered in 2 types of outputs, namely F2 type shielded cable and Hirschmann type connector output for sending output signals. Choose from a wide range of these sanitary pressure transducers, available in maximum pressure ratings ranging from 60 to 600 psi. We also offer Ashcroft pressure switches for controlling pressure, shutdown & alarm operations.
Uses
Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers are ideal for measuring minute changes in pressure (air or fluid). They are also used to inform personnel of any increase/decrease in the pre-set pressure level. Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers are suitable for food & dairy, pharmaceutical and other sanitary applications demanding stringent requirements for cleanliness.
Working Mechanism
Firstly, Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers are installed safely on the tanks or flow pipelines.
When the flow starts or the tank fills up, the liquid flow starts generating pressure on the diaphragm of the sanitary pressure transducers.
Pressure on the diaphragm causes its physical deformation and leads to a proportional change in electrical resistance.
Change in electrical results is a change in electrical current / voltage output.
This change in output is measured by a PLC pressure sensor or meter for indicating an accurate value of pressure or change in pressure.
Operators can now take necessary actions for controlling the pressure in an industrial process.
Features
Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers are used in sanitary applications for measuring changes in pressure and alerting operators for performing necessary actions.
They have 316L stainless steel electropolished wetted diaphragm with 1.5 & 2 inch Tri-Clamp sanitary process connections for reaction time lesser than 5 ms.
These sanitary pressure transducers have 316 stainless steel welded construction for easy cleaning and corrosion resistance.
They can withstand shocks, vibrations and pressures upto 600 psi.
These sanitary pressure transducers have shielded cable (pigtail integral cable) or Hirschmann type mated connector (DIN connections) for sending output signals.
They have +/-1% of span accuracy and +/-0.04% thermal accuracy per degree F at -20 to 168 degrees F operating temperatures.
Compatible Accessories
Transducer Cables: Raptor Supplies can deliver appropriate pressure transducer cables for connecting Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers to digital indicators or PLCs.
Standards and Approvals
Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers are UL & CSA listed. They have NEMA 4X housing for outdoor applications and corrosion resistance.
3A 74-07 standard applies to these Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers for ensuring customers about their sanitary conditions while increasing cleaning efficiency & decreasing cleaning costs.
Installation
Firstly, Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers are installed on tanks or fluid pipelines using gaskets and other necessary accessories.
Then, the sanitary pressure transducers are connected to a power supply cable (F2 type shielded cable or Hirschmann type connectors).
A meter, PLC pressure sensor or pressure switch can be connected to the sanitary pressure transducers in 2 wire 4 - 20mA, 3-wire voltage or 4-wire ratiometric wiring configurations.
Frequently Asked Questions
What safety precautions do we take while operating these Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers?
These sanitary pressure transducer's pressure measuring elements may get damaged electrically or mechanically when the media pressure spikes beyond the rated overpressure capability of the transducers.
Avoid fluid hammers (occur when the liquid flow stops suddenly) and surges (occur when the flow starts suddenly) to ensure proper measurement of the pressure transducers. Users can avoid fluid hammer & surge damage by installing a surge chamber in the fluid line.
Flow valves should also be opened or closed slowly to avoid damaging the instrument.
The transducers should be grounded before making any electrical connections to avoid static electrical charges.
Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers should be mounted in locations having minimum vibration.
Do not run the power cables of Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers near any inductive equipment for minimum noise susceptibility.
Check for corrosion on the pressure containing parts of the transducers before operating for accurate pressure measurements.
Where is Ashcroft Inc. located?
Ashcroft, a leading manufacturer of temperature & pressure instruments, is located in Connecticut, US
Where are pressure transducers having diaphragm seals used?
Pressure transducers having diaphragm seals, such as Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers are used where the critical medium can not come in direct contact with the measuring instruments. The diaphragm in these pressure transducers separates the abrasive, aggressive and critical medium from pressure instruments to measure pressure in high-temperature applications. They are also suitable for compact locations where traditional pressure measuring tools, such as pressure gauges, can not be used.
What is the difference between voltage & current output sanitary pressure transducers?
Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers (having current outputs between 4 to 20mA) are not affected by electrical noise and power supply resistance. They are therefore ideal for pressure measurement in media at a long distance. Ashcroft KS sanitary pressure transducers (having voltage outputs between 1 to 5V) feature integral signal conditioning for less susceptibility to electrical noise. They are suitable for use with an unregulated power supply.
Are a transducer & transmitter the same?
Most people confuse these terms and use them interchangeably. But no, transducers and transmitters are not the same. Transducers convert a physical variable like temperature or pressure into an analogue electrical signal (generally low voltage). Transmitters convert this low voltage or current signal from the transducers into a much larger electrical signal for long-distance transmission to a PLC sensor or switch. A pressure transmitter is connected to the pressure transducer.
What are diaphragm pressure switches?
Ashcroft diaphragm pressure switches are used to monitor & control pressure in hydraulic & pneumatic systems to prevent damage and downtime. They automatically cut off / start the system at pre-set pressure settings.
