Frequently Asked Questions

What is the significance of vibration-resistant slotted spring pins?

These spring pins have interlocking teeth to prevent sliding when exposed to vibration. To prevent flexing after installation, they have a hole that closes shut when the pins are placed.

What is the significance of toothed split spring pins?

Slotted toothed spring pins are hollow pins similar to standard slotted spring pins. These pins feature a slot having staggered teeth that are spaced for interlocking when the pin gets compressed. This alignment retains the pin's roundness while reducing lateral movement in vibratory environments to resist walkout. These slotted toothed pins serve dual purposes in certain applications, like those where both a spring retainer and a mechanical stop are needed. These spring pins can be doubled up to increase shear strength by positioning the slots at an angle between 90 and 180 degrees.

How to install spring pins?

  • The simplest method of installing spring pins is to use a hammer. Just align the coiled pin to the hole manually and simply hammer the pin into the hole just like a nail. Drive the pin to the desired insertion depth without damaging the host.
  • These spring pins can also be installed manually with an air hammer or a press by using a pin driving chuck. Secure the pin driving chuck into the air hammer or press and insert the pin manually into the driver end. Place the exposed end of the pin into the hole and complete the installation by actuating the air gun or advancing the press handle.
  • Another way of installing spring pins is to use an automatic pin inserter. Simply load the assembly onto the fixture, activate the machine for inserting the pin and remove the assembly from the fixture. The supply of pins in the feeder bowl should be replenished periodically.

How to remove a coiled spring pin?

  • Grab a press or hammer and strike the pin until it gets removed from the assembly.
  • Grab a pair of pliers and make sure that the pin is protruding from the assembly.
  • Simply grab the pliers and pull out the spring pin.
