A chisel tip has a flat and broad shape that makes it perfect for general soldering tasks in both through-hole and surface-mount components.
The choice of the tip depends on the application. For example, a fine-tipped iron is better for delicate components, while a wider tip can be used on larger joints. The operator must ensure using the right tip for the operation as it is less time-consuming and prevents damage to the working components.
Weller stations incorporate an inbuilt iron stand that holds the soldering / desoldering iron when it is not in use and protects the work surface from the heat of the iron. The stand features a heat-resistant base and a holder to secure the iron in place. They also include a sponge or wetted copper mesh to clean the iron tip before and after use to remove any oxidisation or impurities.
