Socket head cap screws are threaded fasteners that have a cylindrical head and a recessed hexagon drive. Also known as Allen head screws, they are turned using a hexagonal key for Allen key engagement. Their torque specifications can be much higher than those of recessed / slotted fasteners. Socket head cap screws are ideal for fixing or clamping removable parts or sheets in machine assemblies. They are also widely used in applications with insufficient clearance to use a fastener with an external hexagon head. Raptor Supplies offers a wide range of flanged, flat and Metric socket head cap screws from brands like Micro Plastics, Morse Drum, Camcar, Foreverbolt, Grainger, Kerr Lakeside, Lisle and Snap-Loc. Grainger socket head cap screws feature a hex head for easy tightening and loosening using socket wrench drives. These flat head cap screws are less likely to snag clothing or linkages and are available in drive sizes ranging from 2 mm to 12 mm.
Whenever you bolt down material, provide a washer between the bolt head and the material you are bolting down.
Socket head cap screws are commonly available in grades 5.8, 8.8 or 10.9. Some are also offered in grade 12.9 - a screw with a tensile strength of 1200 MPa and a yield strength of 90% of this (1080 MPa).
If you want screws for marine applications, then go for stainless steel socket head cap screws. They are highly corrosion-resistant and can withstand moisture & splashes.
Nylon socket head cap screws show excellent electrical insulation. As a result, they can be safely used in electrical applications without the risk of conducting electricity or causing shorts.
