LED lights provide a brightness of 9000 - 10000 lumens, whereas HID can have 8000 lumens. Both, however, are brighter than conventional halogen lights. The LED lights use electricity, whereas HID uses gas (generally xenon).
An HID ballast operates similar to any other ballast employed in a fluorescent lighting system but with slight differences. For secure and effective use in a car, HID bulbs should be able to light up fast, making the ballast excessively important.
