They have a self-sealing mechanism that does not rely on gravity, mounting position or reverse flow, providing more versatile and reliable operation. Check and foot valves are designed to allow unidirectional flow and are widely used in sump / wet pumps for drawing water out of the well while restricting backsiphonage by closing the valve. These units have a strainer, attached to the open-end, for preventing clogging of valves caused by dust and debris and providing a smooth suction lift. Hayward flow check valves come with square-cut O-ring seats for proper sealing and providing minimum backpressure.
