About Square D

Square D manufactures switches, pushbuttons, starters & contactors, relays, fuses and transformers.
Square D single & double pole switches are used to open or close an electrical circuit and are also used as Auto On / Off / Start devices. Limit & interlock switches automatically activate or deactivate power to a device when its travel limits exceed, keeping users & equipment safe from malfunctioning machinery. Liquid level switches on the other hand use a float mechanism to start / stop pumps, open / close valves or activate level alarms by detecting fluid levels. Pressure and vacuum switches are used to track pressure levels & vacuum conditions and control power to hydraulic and pneumatic systems like air compressors & water pumps.
Circuit breakers are designed to control voltage levels and prevent overload conditions in electrical systems. These circuit breakers are available in miniature and moulded case sizes having bolt on or plug in design. The bolt on circuit breakers are used in industrial settings for vibration proof, permanent operations. They can be removed safely only after power to the equipment is switched off. The plug in circuit breaker on the other hand can be removed and replaced easily without disconnecting power from the source. These plug in circuit breakers are cheaper & riskier than bolt on circuit breakers and are used in light commercial applications that do not require permanent installation of the circuit breakers.
Square D panelboards are used to distribute power downstream from main breakers. They protect the housed equipment from rain, dust, snow and other environmental conditions. Load centres are a specialised type of panel board that accept only plug-in circuit breakers having voltage ratings up to 240V for light commercial & industrial usage. Homeline (HOM) Series load centres are used with HOM series circuit breakers and QO Series load centres are used with QO series circuit breakers only.
Choose from a wide range of these circuit breakers and related accessories, such as hook sticks, lever arms, auxiliary contacts and mounting hardware on Raptor Supplies.

Things To Consider

Cross-Reference Alternatives

Square D circuit breakers cross reference with General Electric, Bussmann and Eaton circuit breakers. If you're looking for competitor equipment or a tool that is either out of stock or obsolete, chances are there that Raptor Supplies has the equivalent Square D equipment available.

Shipping

These Square D equipment sizes vary from small to large. They may require careful packaging as some of the tools may get damaged while shipping. Hence, these Square D equipment are delivered by courier shipment and air freight for minimum downtime.

Square D Competitive Advantages

Visi-Trip indicator

Square D QO and QOB Series circuit breakers have a Visi-Trip trip indicator to provide a visual indication that the circuit breaker has tripped & interrupted the circuit. When a QO Series circuit breaker trips, its handle assumes a centre position & the Visi-Trip indicator denotes red colour in a window located under the handles in the circuit breaker case. This patented Visi-Trip indicator lights up only when the circuit breaker has tripped for quick identification of the circuit from any other circuits which are merely in the on or off position. For resetting these Square D circuit breakers, push the handle to OFF and then to ON position. Restarting of the circuit turns off the Visi-Trip indicator to denote normal operation.

Time Saver Diagnostics

Square D QO and HomeLine circuit breakers feature Time Saver Diagnostics to provide timely diagnostic assistance with the touch of a button when a circuit trip occurs. This technology helps the contractors and electricians to identify the type & cause of fault that has occurred, providing faster troubleshooting time.

Square D Time Saver Diagnostics is very simple and easy to use. It does not require any tools or special training. Follow these steps for identifying the cause of a fault:

  • Turn off the circuit breaker, continue to hold the TEST button and turn the circuit breaker back on.
  • If the circuit breaker trips immediately (within 1 second), then a ground fault is being detected.
  • If the circuit breaker trips after 2 seconds, then the Time Saver Diagnostics is detecting an arc fault.
  • In case the circuit breaker trips at 5 seconds, it indicates either no fault or thermal overload or a short circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which company owns Square D?

Square D, headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts, USA, is owned by Schneider Electric, a leading electrical equipment manufacturer.

How to select appropriate load centres & circuit breakers?

Following are the major points that users should note while selecting the appropriate load centre or circuit breaker for their applications:

  • Space restriction: Users should choose their circuit breakers based on the space available in the load centre. QO Series circuit breakers are offered generally in 3/4 inch format whereas, the Homeline Series circuit breakers are available in the 1-inch format.
  • Enclosure type required: Rainproof enclosures may be required, depending on the location of application (indoor or outdoor).
  • Electric power supply: Load centres and circuit breakers can be supplied with either single-phase or 3 phase electrical power.
  • Features: Users should select Load centres by taking note of the main circuit breaker, main lugs & generator panel available with them.
  • Ground bar option: Selected ground bars in load centres are factory-installed, whereas some ground bars need to be field installed.
  • Electrical ratings: Users should always check the ampere ratings of the load centres & circuit breakers before purchasing them. They should also take note of the pole spaces and the maximum number of 1-pole, single-phase circuits that a load centre can handle.

What safety instructions should operators follow while using Square D tools?

Users / operators should turn off the power supply before performing any work on any equipment. They should use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices, such as appropriately rated voltage sensing devices at all lines. Some Square D equipment and instruments may require periodic cleaning and lubrication.

What standards / certifications do Square D equipment abide by?

Square D equipment can be UL listed or CSA certified while adhering to National Electrical Code (NEC, USA) standards. Square D products are compliant with RoHS, REACh standards as well for minimal use of hazardous substances during manufacturing. Selected Square D equipment are IP & NEMA rated for use in indoor & outdoor applications.
